Fridays 20th & 27th Jan

These two Fridays have been combined in to one blog, mainly due to the God Slot topics.

Anyway, on the 20th a member form the Methodist Church came along and shared he card making craft skills with the young people.  It was great to see all of them work on a table and make a card for someone special.

The God Slot looked at the parable of the Vine Workers and how they all got paid the same despite some working less than others.  Whilst it seemed unfair, the message is that we are all treated the same by God, all having the same reward.

Some needed to return to the card making before we got the parachute out and enjoyed "the washing machine" and "shark attack" games.  If you're not sure what these are, why not come along and find out.

The "Shark Attack" Game

Not sure what is happening here, but I think they're thinking about the next game!
The 27th was a strange meeting, but I'm not sure why.  May be it was related to the end of the month, who knows.

Strangely, the God Slot continued the "unfairness" form the previous week.  The parable of the "Forgiven Debts" looked at two people with vastly different debts being cancelled.  Again, it seemed unfair, but God forgives sin and treats us all the same.

We then played with the parachute again (more washing machine) and a competition for one half to keep a ball on the parachute with the other trying to keep it off.  This was followed by "1 on 1" hockey, which was great fun.  (Sorry, pictures too blurred to be of any use).

Friday 13th Jan 2012

Due to building work at the Church where RAWR meets (a new kitchen after 3 years of planning for it), RAWR met in the Worship Area.  Although the floor slops from the back toward the front, this does not affect activities (too much unless the pool table is n the wrong place!).

Despite this, we enjoyed out usual activities and concluded with a game of Dodge Ball.  A new item of equipment has been made, a dividing line made up of one length of rope and a wooden block at each end.  Much better than four skipping ropes.

The God Slot looked at the parable of the "midnight friend" who asked for food for his visitor.  We also heard of a real life example of a friend visit that happened when folks were already in bed.  It reminded us that we can talk to God at anytime and ask for anything that God knows is good for us.

Here are some Dodge Ball pictures: -

Christmas Party 2011

Friday 16th December 2011 was the first ever RAWR Christmas Party.  As a treat, the Bungee Run was borrowed from another Church in Maldon and just fits (diagonally) within the main hall at the Methodist Church.

As has been experienced before, the Bungee Run is a great success, as can been seen in the pictures below.

The tuck shop was replaced by buffet food, donated by RAWR members, leaders and helpers.  After food, we played a game of "pass the parcel", which included forfeits and the "eating chocolate" game, which involves throwing a 6 on a dice, putting hat, scarf and gloves on before getting a chance to eat the chocolate with a knife and fork.  Mean while, the dice is passed round to other players who try and throw a dice.  Can be a fast game when 6's are thrown in quick secession.

There was no God Slot as the fellowship of the party, playing and being together is an important part of Christian life.
