Friday 2nd Dec 2011

Now that some of the school productions had finished, numbers were good again this week.  The "stress" may have rubbed off one member as he was happy to walk around hugging a bean bag most of the evening.  Tuck Shop trade was good, with one leader buying a Mars Bar for his wife as the children at home had eaten her chocolates.

The "God Slot" talked about good news and how news can be good depending who who hears it.  Whilst Jesus is "good news", not everyone hears it.

The evening finished with dodge ball, using the four new foam balls recently purchased.  We had to turn the hall heating off as it got rather warm in the hall.  We also need to accurately measure the length of the hall to find the midway point and a single piece of rope to mark it.

As the young people left, an invitation to the Christmas Party on the 16th (see http://rawryouthgroup.blogspot.com/2011/11/important-dates.html) was handed out and people select the food items they chose to bring for the party.

"Dodge Ball" Equipment

Following several requests (or were they nags!) form the young people (OK one or two in particular) some foam balls have been purchased to allow Dodge ball game to be played towards the end of the evening.

Unlike all the hassle experienced with pool balls, these were ordered on a Saturday morning and all arrived by Wednesday.  Wonder how long they'll survive?

Friday 11th Nov 2011

We meet at usual, but the club was held in the worship area instead of the main hall.  This was because the hall was being set up for a church event on the Saturday.

The table tennis and new snooker / pool tables were moved in, having taken out 20 or so chairs to make room.  The "faith discussion" slot looked at what is important to us (family, friends, gadgets to name a few) and which we would be prepared to give up.  Many answered "it depends on who it is given up for?".

We then watched a video about the story of Private Gordon, who gave his life to save other prisoners of war from being killed.  After the God Slot, several of the young people talked about a visitor to the school, one of the survivers of the concentration camps of the Second World War.

New Snooker / Poll Table In Use

Well, despite numerous problems, excluding the latest one with the cues, the new snooker / poll table was constructed and put to use on 4th November 2011.

One of the younger people had the honor of being the first to use the table and our female leaders was the first adult.

The Table Is Used For The First Time

Leaders Get To Play Too
And so to the latest issues!  Despite checking with the company and table manufacturer, the 2" "spot and stripped" pool balls are just too big for the table and are being sent back.  The search is now on for another campany who can supply a set.  There is no felt tip on the cues, just a wooden end.  It was a real shame as there has been problem after problem with getting the equipment and it is not over yet.  Oh well, patience is a virtue, so they say!

New Equipment

Thanks to funding from the United Reform Church, one of the founding Churches, a new 6 foot snooker table and pool ball set has been purchased.
The good news is that the table has been delivered, but the pool balls have not.  Despite requesting delivery on a Friday, they delivered the table on a Thursday, without the pool balls.

The delivery firm admitted that the second parcel was missed, but seemed unable to locate it!

Hoping to have the poll balls by Friday.

Friday 21st October 2011

Although it was the start of half term, 6 young people enjoyed another meeting of RAWR.  The first hour was spent playing the usual games available (table tennis, pool, UNO etc) which was followed by a short "God Slot" looking at choices and how we can choose whether to follow Jesus or not.

Following this, we put the equipment away and enjoyed Dodge Ball.  The game improved as both young people and leaders joined in.

The next meeting was on 4th November due to half term.
